18 DAYS1 7 NIGHTS TOURS

( YANGON – MEIKHTILA- PINDAYA – INLE – MANDALAY  –  BAGAN  – NEWESAUNG – YANGON )

Day 1 : Arrive at Yangon. Evening stroll from the hotel throng night time including a typical Myanmar style dinner.

Day 2 : After breakfast, transfer by historical Dodge bus to Yangon Central Railway Station where you will hop on the circular ‘commuter’ train for a 1 hour journey around Yangon ( please take note that the trains are very basic, often crowded and not quite reliable) to Insein Station. We walk through this typical Myanmar neighborhood to observe the way of life of yangon people and then drive downtown. Start your walking tour at Pansodan Street famous for some of Yangon’s most impressive colonial buildings. Continue to Mahabandoola Road from where you have the perfect view on Sule Padoda, City hall and High Court. Cross through the greens of Maha Bandoola Garden before discovering the gold shops of Shwe Bontha Street. Go further on to Kon Zay Dan Street and Shwedagon Pagoda Road before crossing through the animated Indian District of Anawrahta Road to reach the Hindu Temple. Continue to 31st Street well known for second hand book shops as well as typical historical shop houses and to the Bogyoke (Scotts) Market with hundreds of food, clothes, handicrafts and gems stores.

Walking time about 2 hours in total.

Lunch at local restaurant near Scotts Market.

Late afternoon, transfer by historical Dodge bus to the Shwedagon Pagoda for the visit of one of the world’s most spectacular monuments. Return to hotel.

Day 3 : YANGON – THAZI – MEIKHTILA

In the early morning , you will be transferred to the Central Railway Station and board your day train to Tharzi. The train is slow, rather dirty and one misses international comfort, however, for guests seeking a more in-depth experience and the chance to meet Myanmar people it is a good introduction to train. Lunch is to your own account.

Upon arrival at Thazo, drive ( 21 KM – 30 minutes) to MEIKHTILA.

Day 4 : MEIKHTILA – PINDAYA

After breakfast, drive up hill to Kalaw which during the former British colonial times was a retreat for the British officers. Walk around the market and see some of the colonial buildings. Shan lunch at Seven Sisters Restaurant. Continue by coach to Pindaya ( total journey from Thazi to Pindaya about 141 km – 6 hours).

Upon arrival in Pindaya visit the Pindaya Caves, a unique site housing thousands of Buddha images placed there by pilgrims over the centuries.

Day 5 : PINDAYA TREKKING

After breakfast, meet the local trekking guide and transfer by tractor to the small town of Pwe Hla located off the min road from pindaya to Aung Ban . From here commence your first trekking day walking in a south-eastern direction. The trek today is mainly up and down hill through several valleys dotted with pine forests and plantations farmed by the Danu and Taung Yo ethnic minorities.

Lunch will be picnic style and dinner will be cooked by your trekking guide.

Overnight stay at Peyin Daung village either in the monastery or local village headman house.

Note: Guester need a good physical condition to complete this 3-day trek. Infrastructure during these 3 days is very simple and basic. The main luggage will be transferred from Pindaya to Nyaung Shwe and we recommend that guests only bring a small back-pack. Good walking shoes, sun hat, sun glasses, sun lotion and comfortable clothes are indispensable, and we also recommend guests to bring a sleeping bag and a towel. Nights between November to February can be very cold when temperatures drop to 5 degrees centigrade at night and warm clothes are a necessity. Overnights will be spent in local monasteries or in the house of local people on the floor on bamboo mats. Shower facilities will only be available in the form of buckets of cold water. Drinking water will be provided and each participant needs to carry his own supplies. Three meals a day will be provided and cooked by the trekking guides with the help of the local villagers and participants. We recommend guests to bring their own supply of snacks such as cookies, fruits and energy bars which they can buy in Yangon. The itinerary and trekking route is subject to changes depending on local circumstances.

Day 6 :                                   TREKKING

Hit the path again and continue your walk passing vast valleys and mountain farms. The Danu give way to ethnic minorities of Pao people who are mountaineers and fully self contained. The Pao can be seen  throughout the Shan State wearing black clothes and colorful head dresses. Some of the villages that you will visit today have their own primary schools run by monks or village communities and you will have the possibility to visit them and take part in their daily activities. The trek today is through hilly terrain with mountain farms and green meadow land.

Tha Yet Pu to Myet Set                      ( 1 hour )

Onhminbauk to Wah Gyi Myaung     ( 3 hour )

Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be simple local food cooked by your trekking guide.

Overnight stay at Wah Gyi Myaung village, either in the monastery or with the local villages head man house.

Day 7 :                                   TREKKING – INLE LAKE

Your last trekking day is a combination of walks through valleys and some dense forested area. This part of the Shan State is very green, dotted with mountain farms and villages, as well as offering beautiful sceneries and views over Inle Lake. You will reach the western shore of the lake near Than Taung village. The last part of the trek is a steep stretch down the valley towards the village.

Arrive near Than Taung village mid afternoon and board a long trail boat for the one hour journey to Nyaung Shwe. Transfer to hotel by trishaws.

Lunch will be simple local food cooked by your trekking guide.

Day 8 :                                   NYAUNG SHWE – INLE LAKE

After breakfast at hotel, transfer to the pier by trishaws. Full-day excursion by boat on Inle lake will include sight of the famous leg rowers, typical floating gardens, local methods of fishing, village life and magnificent scenery. We travel to the southern part of the lake to focus on village life of the Inn Thar people who have developed a unique way of life and keep to their centuries old traditions.

Lunch will be served in a typical Inn Thar house built on stilts over Inle Lake.

Return to Nyaung Shwe by boat and stop on the way at one of the hotels near the Eastern shore built on stilts over the lake. Enjoy a sundowner. Transfer from pier to hotel in Nyaung Shwe on foot  ( about 15 minutes walk) through the lively early evening town.

Day 9 :                                               INLE LAKE – INN THEIN

Pick-up at your hotel in Nyaung Shwe and board your boat to the Western shore of the lake where you will find the beginning of a stair path leading to the hidden and unknown Inn Thein pagoda complex. Visit one of the most amazing historical sights on the shore of the lake consisting of hundreds of small stupas overgrown by moss and greens. Continue on foot to a village nearby where several crops are grown in traditional ways. Walk in an easy pace along one of the many creeks passing through rice fields to the village of Sae Ma. Visit the primary school of the village and possibility to meet the children and teachers to observe their way of learning and teaching. Step in a wooden canoe for an exciting ride down a narrow creek until you reach the Paung Daw Oo Pagoda. Lunch at local restaurant. Return by boat to your hotel.

Day 10 :                                  NYAUNG SHWE – MANDALAY

After breakfast, long bumpy journey over some bad and heavily potholed roads to Mandalay ( 348 km – 10 hours).

Day 11 :                                 MANDALAY – AMARAPURE

After breakfast, excursion to Amarapura, 15 km from Mandalay where you have the possibility to see MAHAGANDAYON, a famous Buddhist monastery, where more than a thousand monks live and study. We will arrange especially for you to have a guided visit by an English speaking monk. Walk through Amarapura village to the

TAUNG THA MAN LAKE  and cross the famous 200 –year old U BEIN TEAK BRIDGE, built in 1782 at the time when Amarapurawas Royal capital (total walking time about 1 hours). You will be picked up on the other side of the bridge and transferred back to Mandalay. Afternoon is at your leisure.

Day 12 :                                  MANDALAY – BAGAN

After early breakfast, a 300 km drive (8 hours) by road through varied agricultural landscapes will take you to BAGAN. Lunch at local restaurant on the way. Upon arrival in Gagan, transfer to your hotel.

Day 13 :                                           BAGAN

After breakfast, travel to Nyaung Oo and stroll through the colorful local market.

Continue the day with visits to the most significant pagodas and temples of Bagan including SHWEZIGON PAGODA, built by King Anawrahta in the early 11th century as a religious shrine; KU BYANUK GYI, a temple with superb murals of Jataka scenes; KHAY MIN GA TEMPLE, noted for its panoramic view of the area’s numerous monuments and ANANDA TEMPLE, with four standing Buddha images. Return to hotel. Afternoon at leisure.

Optional:

3.00 pm pick up at your hotel by horse cart and venture out to some of the more off-the beaten track temples and pagodas. We don’t follow the trotted trails but take you over dusty roads and small paths through one thousand years of history. After sunset from the top of one of the Pagodas return to your hotel.

Day 14 :            BAGAN

After breakfast, full day at leisure.

Optional half-day morning bike excursion:

Bagan is not only the site of thousand year old temples andpagodas, butr also of many villages scattered throughout the temple plain. Leave from your hotel and bike over dusty lanes and tree shaded roads past temples and monasteries to TAUNG BI  village. Visit the noodle makers, a Myanmar-style movie theatre, the village hairdresser and the local tea shop. Bike to the Irrawaddy River and along the way pay a visit to some of the family businesses including blacksmiths, brick maker, dry smack ‘factories’ and bamboo roof producers. They pursue their trade since generations in the same traditional way. Return to your hotel by bike.

Day 15 BAGAN – YANGON – DOHA

Atter breakfast, transfer to airport for domestic flight to YANGON  and connect to your international departure flight.

Day 16 BAGAN – YANGON – NEWE SAUNG

Upon arrival at Yangon airport transfer by tour coach (no guide) over a bumpy countryside road to Ngwe Saung (5 – 6 hours) via a stop in Pathein. Lunch is to your own account.

Day 17 NGWE SAUNG BEACH

After breakfast , full day is at your leisure. The un-spoilt 15 km of white powdery sand beach invites travelers to relax under lush tropical coconut palm trees. Besides beach activities such as swimming,windsurfing and snorkeling Ngwe Saung Beach is the ideal retreat for guest seeking a peaceful and quiet atmosphere, Lunch is to your own account.

Optional boat excursion ( under the arrangement of Treasure Beach Resort) :

Hotel staff will accompany you for the 15 minutes drive off-road to Thazin jetty and departure to Sinma village by boat. Strike anchor 30 meter off Sinma Village. Stroll along the road and witness a day’s of activities of native fishermen (possibly upon return form the sea wityh loads of fish and prawns of various catches and the primitive way of preserving the day’s catch…). Cross a little creek in a local boat, walk up to a hill top pagoda to enjoy the breathtaking sceney. Picnic lunch is served at midday.

Day 1 YANGON

Day 2 YANGON

After breakfast, drive to the landmark STRAND HOTEL and have a look at PANSODAN JETTY to observe the busy life on Yangon River. Continue driving up PANSODAN STREET famous for some of Yangon’s most impressive colonial buildings. Start your walking tour at MAHABANDOOLA ROAD from where you have the perfect view on SULE PADOGA, CITY HALL and HIGH COURT. Cross through the greens of  MAHA BANDOOLA GARDEN before discovering the gold shops of WHWE BONTHA STREET. Go further on to KON ZAY DAN STREET and SHWEDAGON PAGODA ROAD before crossing through the animated INDIAN DISTRICT of ANAWRAHTA ROAD to reach the HINDU TEMPLE, Continue to 31st STREET well known for second hand book shops as well as typical historical shop houses and to the BOGYOKE (SCOTTS) MARKET with hundreds of food, clothes, handicrafts and gems stores.

After lunch (to your own account), board the circular ‘commuter’ train at Scotts Market station and train journey for about 20 minutes (please take note that the trains are very basic, often crowded and not reliable). You will get off at HANDHAWADDY STATION and will have the feeling to have arrived in a village, even though you are in the middle of town. Walk through a typical Myanmar neighborhood where today’s more modern lifestyle mixes with ancient traditions. An old timer bus (without air-con) will be waiting to transfer you to Kandawgyi Botanical Garden where you could buy some local species of Orchids and your knowledge on Orchids will be broaden by the responsible person of the garden.

Continue your journey to the busy  area of Chinatown where shops close down and the NIGHT MARKET  selling all kinds of goods sets up. Return to hotel.

Day 3 YANGON – BAGAN

After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for domestic flight to BAGAN. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. Day 4 BAGAN – SALE – MOUNT POPA – BAGAN

After early breakfast, you will board a local chartered boat downriver ( approx. 3 hours) to explore SALE, a town which developed during the late BAGAN era. Worth a visit is the YOKE SONE MONASTERY with its exceptional woodcarvings on the outside of the building.

Continue to MOUNT POPA ( 1 ½  hours drive), an extinct volcano with spectacular views. Its shrine is dedicated to animist spirits known as “ nats” and you will have time to climb the 777 steps to the shrine at the top of the peak. Drive back to Bagan through several local villages and observe the daily life of the people and the toddy palm plantations.

Day 5 BAGAN

After breakfast, pick up at your hotel by horse carts and venture out to some of the more off- the – beaten track temples and pagodas. We don’t follow the trotted trails but take you over dusty roads and small paths through one thousand years of history. Visit the ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM to view Buddha images of bronze,stone and lacquer.

In the afternoon we will have a hands-on experience and interaction with the local people. Many houses in the villages around Bagan and in many other areas in Myanmar are buil entirely from bamboo. Bamboo is used for the frame of the house and bamboo mats are processed from bamboo rods and waved together in order to produce walling and flooring. Roofs are made of thatch. This is a unique industry and the entire process is manual. Guests will participate in putting together the bamboo material of the house and then take part in the actual construction of a bamboo house. Not only it is fun for guests and locals, they will gain Buddhist merits by their offering to the local monastery.

From the bamboo house we proceed to the river. A prominent local artist will set up canvases & easels complete with paint sets for all guests. The scenery is one of scattered temples and river scenery. The artist will paint an outline of the scenery and temples at sunset and have them ready on the easels, so that the guests may continue the work of adding the detail and color ( under his guidance ) to complete the work of art. The finished work will be co- signed by both the artist and the guests.

Day 6 BAGAN – KANPETLETE

Afer breakfast, board your jeeps and continue south to the township of Chauk where you will cross the Irrawaddy river and continue on a mostly unsealed bumpy road the arid plain before your drive slowely ascents to Pone Taung, Pone Nyar Hills where the scenery will start to change and becomes a greyisch- green mountain range and cultivated fields. Once you pass Saw you will find yourself on a real mountain road with green pine trees and other species of huge trees. As you climb into the Chin Hills the climate will freshen up. Upon arrival in the small town of Kanpetlet, situated at 1325m, transfer to your accommodation.

Dinner at simple local restaurant and overnight stay at Mountain Oasis Resort ( very simple and basic ) in Kanpetlet.

Note: To travel to the Kanpelet and MT. Victoria area only 4 WD Mitsubishi Pajeros and or Double Cabs ( similar to the large Isuzu pick up truck with extended front cabins ) transportantion can be used due to the bad condition of the roads. We recommend to bring small luggages only and store main luggage in the hotel in Bagan. Nights on Mt. Victoria will walk on trodded paths through bushes, high grass and forested areas. A journey to Mt.Victoria is an adventure trip and guests should be aware of simple infrastructure, simple meals and a low level of comfort.

Day 7 KANPETLET – MT. VICTORIA – KANPETLET

After breakfast, drive 10 miles to the carpark halfway up the mountain, which is the nearest destination approaching to Mt.Victoria. From here continue trekking about 3 hours to the peak. You set out through hard to penetrate undergrowth on a steep trail under a thick canopy. Once you leave the somber forest behind you will be greeted by a scenery of slopes dotted with tall pines and beautiful Taungzalet ( Rhododendorn ) trees. Once you reach the 3053m high peak you will be rewarded with a picnic as well as the panoramic view with the mountain ranges of India in the distance. Descent back 1½  hr to 10 miles camp and return to Kanpetlet. Until sunset visit the surrounding area including Chin villages built on a hill slope. Learn mor about the village life of the Chin tribe, noted for its fribal costume and ornament, handicraft and hunting weapon.

Day 8 KANPETLET – MT. VICTORIA PARK – KANPETLET

After breakfast,  start your tour with on expert specialized in Orchids. Enjoy seeing different kinds of orchids in Mt. Victoria National Park. Questions and answers are exchanged between an expert and the guests.

Picnic lunch box will be provided.

Dinner at simple local restaurant and overnight stay at Mountain Oasis Resort ( very simple and basic ) in Kanpetlet.

Day 9 KANPETLET –  BAGAN

After breakfast, visit one or two more villages before you drive back to BAGAN  ( 160km, approx: 7 ½  hr ). Your way takes you down the mountain slope via Saw and Seikphyu, across the recently built Anawrahta Bridge, which spans the might Irrawaddy River with its busy traffic just 21 miles south of Bagan. Lunch at simple local restaurant en route. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel in Bagan.

Day 10 BAGAN – MANDALAY

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for domestic flight  to MANDALAY. Upon arrival,  transfer to the hotel.

You will experience the sights and sounds of Mandalay including one of the most revered religious monuments in Myanmar, the MAHAMUNI PAGODA; the SHWE INBIN MONASTERY; the GOLDEN PALACE MONASTERY, a superb example of a tradintional wooden building and KUTHODAW PAGODA the world’s largest book made of marble. Visit a traditional wooden building and KUTHODAW PAGODA the world’s largest book made of marble. Visit a traditional hand- woven silk workshop as well as a kalaga tapestsries craftsmen’s shop before proceeding to MANDALAY HILL for sunset.

Day 11 MANDALAY – MINGUN – MANDALAY

Early morning for those who wish, transfer to a traditional Mandalay neighborhood to participate in SOON OFFEING. Soon affering is practiced throughout the country when monks line up along to streets to receive food donations from local people. Return to hotel for breakfast. Before becoming a monk one has to visit a MONK ACCESSORY SHOP as 8 items are needed before joining a monastery. We will visit such a shop and then continue to an ASTROLOGER. It is of utmost importance to join monkshood on a suitable date and the astrologer will explain the philosophy and how such a date is calculated. Continue to a MONASTERY where you will observe the educational as well as religious side of monkhood and see how the monks eat the last meal of the day in total silence.

After Lunch ( to own account ) excursion by boat on the AYEYARWADDY RIVER to MINGUN about 11 km ( 1 hour ) upriver from Mandalay. Visits will start with the MINGUN BELL, a magnificent sight of the world’s largest uncracked bell weighing 90 tons, and will continue with HSINBYUME PAYA as well as the unfinished MINGUN PAYA, built as one of the world’s largest chedis by King Bodaw Paya.

Return to Mandalay by boat on Ayeyarwaddy river at sunset.

Day 12 MANDALAY– INWA– SAGAING- AMARAPURA- MANDALAY

After breakfast, excursion to former Royal Capital if INWA (AVA ) reached by a short boat trip. Visits by horse- drawn carriage to NANMYINT WATCH TOWER, the remains of the place building nicknamed “leaning tower of Ava” MAHN AUNGMYE BONZAN MONASTERY, built of brick and stucco, BAGAYAR MONASTERY,famous for its impressive ornate woodcarvings and teak posts. Continue to SAGAING HILL, a retreat for Buddhist devotees and private visit to a nunnery and a monastery. Proceed to 200-year-old U BEIN teak.

Day 13 MANDALAY – MAYMYO ( PYIN OO LWIN )

After breakfast, a scenic drive (80 km – 2h) to the former British hill station of PYIN OO LWIN (Maymyo),a delightful small town of colonial-style buildings, markets, and a botanical garden. Feel the historical atmosphere by traveling through town in a traditional horse-drawn carriage. Visit the local market and the botanical garden. After lunch, venture out to visit the PEIK KHYIN MYAUNG CAVES, caves almost as old as the land itself and proceed to PWE KYAUK FALLS, a favorite picnic spot for local people.

After breakfast, start your another orchid tour together with your orchid specialist. In the late afternoon, drive back to MANDALAY AND TRANSFER TO THE HOTEL.

Day 15 MANDALAY – HEHO – INLELAKE

After breakfast, transfer to airport for domestic flight to HEHO. Upon arrival, drive to NYAUNG SHWE (32 km – 1 hour ) and transfer to the hotel by boat.

An excursion by boat on Inle Lake will include sights of the famous leg rowers, typical floating gardens, local methods of fishing, village life and magnificent scenery. Visits are made to  PHAUNGDAW OO PAGODA: the NGA PHE KYAUNG MONASTERY, famous for its jumping cats trained by monks, the weaving village of INPAWKHON and to one of the local markets. Visit the orchid garden near Ann restaurant.

Day 16 INLE LAKE

After breakfast, pick-up from your hotel and board your boat to the western shore of fthe lake where you will find the beginning of a stair path leading to the hidden and unknown INN THEIN PAGODA complex. Visit one of the most amazing historical sights on the shore of the lake consisting of hundreds of small stupas overgrown by

Moss and greens. Continue on foot to a village nearby where several crops are grown in traditional ways. Walk in an easy pace along one of the many creeks passing through rice fields to the village of SAE MA. Visit the primary school of the village and possibility  tomeet the children and teachers to observe their way of learning and teaching. Step in a wooden canoe for an exciting ride down a narrow creek until you reach the PAUNG DAW OO PAGODA.

Total walking time about 2 h over small paths.

After lunch (to your own account) transfer by boat to Thei Lei Oo. Thei Lei Oo village is a beautiful rural farming village that lies on the eastern shore of Inle Lake. It is at the heart of one of the most important farming areas on the lake. The inhabitants of the village are Inn Tha and Pao ethnic minority groups. They are well known for their farming skills and use organic farming methods. The major crops farmed are rice, sugar cane, potato, tomato, garlic and a variety of beans, as well as cucumber and flowers. During the winter season (November to February) the harvested sugar cane is sent to small on site molasses plants where the juice is extracted, made into molasses, then sent to the city for use in the production of Mandalay Rum. You will follow an agro trail that runs from the lake through the village and the surrounding organic farmland in a wide looping curve back to the lake. It affords an excellent window onto village life untouched as it is by modern development. Return to hotel by boat. Lunch excluded.

Day 18 INLE LAKE – HEHO – THANDWE / NGAPALI BEACH

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for domestic flight  to

Day 19 NGAPALI BEACH

After breakfast, enjoy the sea, sun and sand – swimming, snorkeling or leisure strolls along the ocean. Watch the breathtaking sunset above the Bay of Bengal.

Day 21 YANGON

After breakfast, complete your Yangon impressions with a visit to the KABA AYE (WORLD PEACE) PAGODA  and the  MAHAPASANA CAVE, where the sixth Buddhist synod took place. Proceed to Yangon’s oldest Chinese temple and at the riverside located BOTATAUNG PAGODA. Last but not least, see the 8 meter high Golden Lion Throne as well as the Mandalay Royal Regalia at the NATIONAL MUSEUM. Optionally make a second visit to Kandawgyi Botanical Garden.

Lunch will be served at local restaurant.

In the late afternoon, you will be transferred to the airport for your international departure flight .

Board your coach and drive to PANSODAN JETTY to observe the busy life on yangon River. Day 2 YANGON – HEHO – INLE LAKE

Day 3 INLE LAKE – INNTHEIN

After breakfast an excursion by boat to the Western Shore of Inle Lake will take you to the beginning of a stair path leading to the hidden and unknown INN THEIN PAGODA complex from Inn Thein your adventure continues by Canoe along a small and narrow creek with a stop on the way at a rice farm Depending on the water level you will have the chance to walk through the rice fields and unique plantations to observe the typical way of life of the Intha people that have lived on Inle Lake since the 7th century.

After lunch at a local restaurant on the lake itself, visits are made to Phaungdaw Oo Pagoda, the weaving village of Inpawkhon; some of the typical workshops including blacksmiths, boat makers and a cheroot factory and to one of the local markets in the Inle Lake region.

Walking time about 2 hours in total, mostly over small paths and tracks, farming fields and small bridges, mostly flat with a maximum elevation of 50 m.

Day 4                          INLE LAKE – KAKKU – KALAW

After early breakfast, meet your Pa- O trekking guide and transfer by boat to you starting point on the Eastern shore of the lake. Hike approximately 3 ½ h uphill to HTI NE village. Visit the local monasteries and small Pa-O villages specialized in the production of traditional Shan music instruments, such a drums and gongs as well as crop fields and flower garden. Picnic lunch on the way.

Meet your driver for a bumpy off-road journey ( about 1 hour drive depending on road and weather conditions) to KAKKU . Visit the kakku pagoda complex of over 2000 stupas. Depart kakku for your overland joirmeu ( 110km- 3 ½ hour) to kalaw, a fresh and delightful hill station, on the rim of the Shan Plateau, which is a market center for ethnic minorities from surrounding regions. This is a long day with a strenuous hike and a long drive you will arrive in Kalaw at about 2000 hrs.

Walking time about 5 hours in total, mostly up hill, altitude difference about 600 m ( a good physical conditions needed for this trek which is the hardest of the entire journey).

Day 5                          KALAW

 

Breakfast at hotel Your trekking guide will pick you up at your hotel for a walk to Palaung hill tribe villages. Walk up- and downhill through tea-and cheroot leaf plantation. The animist Palaung Tribe was amongst the earliest inhabitants in Myanmar and has kept to their tradition living with several families in long-houses cultivation cash crops and tanapet for Burmese cheroot cigars. Return to hotel. Late lunch at hotel.

In the afternoon walk through the colonial town, see the typical houses built at the time when Burma was a British colony and visit the railway station. Dinner at Seven Sisters Restaurant.

Day 6 KALAW – PINDAYA

After breakfast, visit Kalaw market and drive (48 km- 1 ½ hours) to PINDAYA Lunch at local restaurant. In the afternoon, walk up to the PINDAYA CAVES, a unique site housing of Buddha images placed there by pilgrims over the centuries. Visit also the umbrella workshop and as well as the paper maker family. A walk around the small lake rounds of this leisurely day.

Day 7 PINDAYA

After breakfast start your trekking day with various stops at Da-nu and Pa-O villages to see their traditional way of life. Both the Da-nu and Pa-O are mountain farmers andsell their crop at the famous 5-day markets in the Inle Lake area. You will have the chance to visit their village and plantations. The surroundings are hilly and you will walk up and down, in and out of several valleys. Picnic lunch on the way. Walk back to your hotel.

Day 9 MINGUN – SAGAING – BAGAN

After breakfast transfer to the jetty and board a private boot on the mighty AYEYARWADDY RIVER and travel up river (about 1hour) to MINGUN. Visits will start with the MINGUN BELL, a magnificent sight of the world’s largest un-cracked bell weighing 90 tons, and will continue with HSINBYUME PAYA as well as the unfinished MINGUN PAYA, built as one of the world’s largest chedis by King Bodaw Paya. Continue on your boat down river (about 2 hours) enjoying your catered lunch. You will then reach SAGAING HILLS, a retreat for Buddhist devotees Your coach will wait for you in Sagaing and transfer you directly to the airport for late afternoon flight to BAGAN by flight. Day  10 BAGAN

After breakfast, drive to the village of Nyaung Oo and visit the colorful local market. Venture on foot into Bagan’s desert plain and visit some of the most important temples of Bagan SHWEZIGON PAGODA , built by King Anawrahta in the early 11th century as a religious shrine. KU BHYANIUK GYI, a temple with superb murals of Jataka scenes; and the famous ANANDA TEMPLE, with four standing Buddha images. Lunch at a local restaurant.

As it gets very hot in Bagan at noontime we recommend returning to your hotel for a rest., but the choice is entirely up to guests’ preferences.

Late afternoon walk through some remote temple area where ox-carts will take too temple off the beaten tourist track. Go on top of the temple to watch the sunset over the famous temples and the Ayeyarwaddy River .

Day 11 PAGAN – MOUNT POPA

After breakfast, pick up at your hotel by horse cart and venture out to some of the more off-the-beaten track temples and pagodas. We don’t follow the trotted trails but takeyou over dusty roads and small paths through one thousand years of history.

After lunch at a local restaurant , drive (45 km – 1 ½  hours) to MOUNT  POPA, an extinct volcano with spectacular views and the birth place of the Myanmar nats’ or spirits. Its shrine is dedicated to animist spirits known as nats and you will have time to climb the 777 steps to the shrine at the top of the peak. Transfer to Popa Mountain.

Day 12 MOUNT POPA – BAGAN – YANGON

Day 3                          YANGON – BAGO – KYAIKHTIYO

After breakfast, pick-up at your hotel for the drive to BAGO(84 KM – 1 ½ hours). Visit the charming and characteristic monastery of Kya Khet Wail, an eminent teaching center for hundreds of monks from neighboring regions to study Buddhism. You will have ample time to observe the monks wald mindfully in procession for their last meal of the day. Proceed to the kin pun ‘base camp’ (11 km -3 ½ hours)

The tour will continue to one of Myanmar’s landmarks, which is famous for its precorious position and religious importance: KYAIKTIYO THE ‘Golden Rock’,a huge boulder completely covered by gold leaf and delicately point., The journey is made sitting on benches in open trucks, which are very crowded and very uncomfortable (we recommemend guests to be advised off this before they decide to join this tour). The ‘upper area’ must be traveled by foot, at present, and the walk is approximately 4 km (1 hour) up a steep path which ascends some 500m to the GOLDEN ROCK. If you wish to take a more comfortable approach, you can sit back and be carried in sedan chairs sunset. Walk downhill to your hotel (45 minutes) . Luggage will be carried by porters.

After breakfast you will return to YANGON (194 km – 5 hours). The drive back to Yangon will be a journey back in time as we will take you through rural landscapes including visits to a farming village, small typical country side town, a pottery village as well as a Mon village that produces woven bamboo wares. We will also stop at the Allied War Graves cemetery near HTAUK KYAN and a “ Nat” tree shrine. Upon arrival in Yangon, transfer to your hotel.

Day 5 YANGON – BAGAN

After early breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for domestic flight  to BAGAN. Upon arrival, starting your day with visits to the most significant pagodasand temples of Bagan including SHWEZIGON PAGODA, BUILT BY King Anawrahta in the early 11th century as a religious shrine; KU BYANUK GYI, a temple with superb murals of Jataka scenes; KHAY MIN GA TEMPLE, noted for its panoramic view of the area’s numerous monuments and ANANDA TEMPLE, with four standing Buddha images.

In the afternoon visit one of Myanmar’s most treasured handicrafts, a lacquerware craftsmen’s workshop in nearby MYINKABA village. You will continue to  MANUHA TEMPLE, built in the Mon style in 1059 and follow on to NANGBAYA TEMPLE, a unique  sandstone monument said to have been the palace of  King Manuha. Proceed to BUPAYA PAGODA or MINGALAZEDI STUPA to watch the sunset over the famous Ayeyarwaddy River.

Day 6 BAGAN – POPA – BAGAN

After breakfast visit further temple including the site of TAYOKEPYAY TEMPLE in Min Nan Thu Village, PHAYATHONE ZU  and NANDAMANYA TEMPLES note for exquisite murals of 13th century and  KYAT KAN CAVE  monastery, a famous meditation retreat in Bagan.

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for domestic flight to Mandalay. Upon arrival, excursion to Amarapura, 15 km from Mandalay. Visit MAHAGANDAYAON,a famous Buddhist monastery, where more than a thousand monks live and study; continue to 200 year old U BEIN teak bridge,1782 at the time when Amarapura was Royal capital. Since then it is noted for silk and cotton weaving. Visit a traditional handwoven silk workshop before proceeding to BAGAYA MONASTERY, with a superb collection of Buddha statues. In the afternoon excursion to the former Royal Capital of INWA (AVA), reached by a short boat trip. Visit by house-drawn carriage to NANMYINT WATCH TOWER,the remains of the palace building nicknamed “the leaning tower of ‘ MAHA AUNGMYE BONZAN MONASTERY, built of brick and stucco; BARGAYAR MONASTERY. Famous for its impressive ornate woodcarvings and teak posts. Continue to SAGAING HILLS, A RETREAT FOR Buddhist devotees for sunset.

Day 8 MINGUN – MANDALAY

After breakfast, an excursion by boat on the AYEYARWADDY RIVER to MINGUN about 11 km ( 1 hour ) upriver from Mandalay. Visit will start with the MINGUN BELL, a magnificent sight of the world’s largest un-cracked bell weighing 90 tons, and will continue with HSINBYUME PAYA as well as the unfinished MINGUN PAYA,  built as one of the world’s largest chedis by King Bodaw Paya.

Experience the sights and sounds of Mandalay including one of the most revered religious monuments in Myanmar, the MAHAMUNI PAGODA; the SHWE INBIN MONASTERY; the GOLDEN PALACE MONASTERY, a superb example of a traditional wooden building and KU THO DAW PAGODA the world’s largest book, made of marble. Mandalay is also a major crafts center. Visit a Kalaga tapestries craftsmen’s shop.

Day 9 MANDALAY

After breakfast, the rest of the day is at your leisure for relaxing, shopping or own sightseeing.

Day 10 INLE LAKE

After breakfast, pick-up from your hotel and board your boat to the western shore of fthe lake where you will find the beginning of a stair path leading to the hidden and unknown INN THEIN PAGODA complex. Visit one of the most amazing historical sights on the shore of the lake consisting of hundreds of small stupas overgrown by

Moss and greens. Continue on foot to a village nearby where several crops are grown in traditional ways. Walk in an easy pace along one of the many creeks passing through rice fields to the village of SAE MA. Visit the primary school of the village and possibility  tomeet the children and teachers to observe their way of learning and teaching. Step in a wooden canoe for an exciting ride down a narrow creek until you reach the PAUNG DAW OO PAGODA.

Total walking time about 2 h over small paths.

After lunch (to your own account) transfer by boat to Thei Lei Oo. Thei Lei Oo village is a beautiful rural farming village that lies on the eastern shore of Inle Lake. It is at the heart of one of the most important farming areas on the lake. The inhabitants of the village are Inn Tha and Pao ethnic minority groups. They are well known for their farming skills and use organic farming methods. The major crops farmed are rice, sugar cane, potato, tomato, garlic and a variety of beans, as well as cucumber and flowers. During the winter season (November to February) the harvested sugar cane is sent to small on site molasses plants where the juice is extracted, made into molasses, then sent to the city for use in the production of Mandalay Rum. You will follow an agro trail that runs from the lake through the village and the surrounding organic farmland in a wide looping curve back to the lake. It affords an excellent window onto village life untouched as it is by modern development. Return to hotel by boat. Lunch excluded.

Day 11 INLE LAKE – HEHO – YANGON

After breakfast, excursion by boat on Inle lake to see the famous leg rowers, typical floating gardens, local methods of fishing, village life and magnificent scenery.

In the afternoon transfer to HEHO airport for domestic flight to YANGON. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel.

Day 1 YANGON

Tour of Yangon’s city center featuring Chaukhtatgyi, a colossal reclining Buddha; Karaweik hall, a Royal barge on the Royal Lake and Bogyoke (Scott) market with hundreds of stall for souvenirs. Day 2 YANGON – KYAIKHTIYO

After early breakfast, drive to KIN PUN Base Camp (194 km – 5 hours). Continue to KYAIKHTIYO the “Golden Rock’ , a huge boulder completely covered by gold leaves and delicately balanced on the edge of a cliff. From KIN PUN we have to drive 11 km to the intermediate point. From the upper area, travelers must, at present, walk the final stage, approximately 4 km, up steep paths which ascend some 500 m to the GOLDEN ROCK. On Overnight at Hotel in Kyaikhto.

Day 3 KYAIKHTIYO – BAGO – YANGON

After breakfast, return to BAGO (110 km – 3 ½ hours). Sightseeing includes the SHWEMAWDAW pagoda, over a thousand years old, its spire is even taller than WHWEDAGON Pagoda. The 55 meter long reclining SHWETHALYAUNG Buddha image is among the country’s most revered.

Afternoon, continue to YANGON ( 84 km – 1 ½ hours), en route, visit the Allied War Graves cemetery near HTAUKKYANT and a tree shrine dedicated to a legendary ‘ Nat’.

Day 7 INLE SEE

Excursion by boat on Inle Lake (about 4 hrs), to see the Intha-fishermen rowing with their legs, Pagoda on artificial islands in the lake, floating gardens and floating market (on market’s day only), continue to PHAUNG DAW OO pagoda, one of the main principle shrines in Myanmar and dating back to the 18th century; the NGA PHE DYAUNG monastery, famous for its jumping cats trained by monks and the weaving village of INPAWKHON.

Day 8 INLE SEE

After an early breakfast, boat journey to the western shore of Inle Lake to visit the INN THEIN Pagoda complex, found after following a stair path lined up with magnificent columns. Explore the colourful market ( on market day only ) in Inn Thein. Continue on foot (about 2 hours) or by ox-drawn carriage (if available) to the U Daung Mountain range to visit the mountain monastery.

Day 9 EXHURSION NACH SAGAR

After breakfast, take a boat trip to Sagar village, about 64 km south of Nyaung Shwe. Visit to Tha Gaung relic Pagoda, other ancient religious monuments and ways of life of Shan, Pa O and Intha national races in Sagar village. Return back to Inle.

Day 11 INLE LAKE – HEHO – BAGAN

After Breakfast, transfer to Yangon Airport for domestic flight to BAGAN. Arrive and transfer to Hotel for check-in, sightseeing Bagan by visiting: Nyaung Oo Masrket, Shwezigon Pagoda – the prototype for later Myanmar pagodas built by King Anawrahta; Anada Temple – King Kyansittha’s masterpiece and crowning achievement off the early style temple of architecture, Kyansitha Umin, Thatbyinnyu Temple – the highest building on the Bagan plain;and Htilominlo Temple – the largest temples of Bagan.

Day 12 Exkursion Zum Mt. Popa & Salay

BAGAN – YANGON

After early breakfast, visit MOUNT PO POPA, an extinct volcano with spectacular views. Its shrine is dedicated to animist spirits known as ‘nats’ and you will have time to climb the 777 steps to the shrine at the top of the peak. Then drive to Salay and visit around Salay. Return drive back to Bagan and transfer to airport for domestic flight back to Yangon. Arrive and transfer to Hotel in Yangon.
