The capital of Karen (Kayin) State, Hpa An lies on the eastern bank of the Thanlwin (Salween) river and about 270 kilometres east of Yangon.It is surrounded by mountains contained large and religiously significant caves.The most impressive place is the attractive monolithic Mount Zwegabin with 722 meters above sea level ,which can be found 16 kilometres south east of Hpa An. Kyauk Kalap located the south of Hpa An is a unique pagoda in the middle of a (man-made) lake. Yathapyan cave is situated on the wet side of the Thanlwin River and we can see several pagodas and clay wall carvings.There are artworks of the Kawgun Cave with thousands of tiny clay Buddha images and carvings plastered all over the walls inside the cave, a mile away from the Yathaypyan Cave.This is the new birding site for our highlight specie, Limestone Wrem-babbler (Turdinus crispifrons).
